The low angle of the late spring moon, the mostly cloudy sky, and the fine mist filling the air conspired to turn the night blue. Street and houses and trees all floated in pale, translucent color. It was as though I were seeing the landscape reflected in a lake by starlight, but through the eyes of my own reflection, and I had the passing thought that if I looked up I might see my real self dreaming on the shore. I didn't look up.
