Memory Jog

Steady rain all day, and watching the water run down the street reminded me of the days when I would spend as much time as I could outside in the rain. Rainy days at school, we were supposed to stay indoors even for lunch, allowed out only to go to the rest room, but I would try to sneak out and get wet. I don't know why I enjoyed being in the rain so much, but I would come home from school soaked, having deliberately missed the bus so that I could walk home. It was only when I got older that I had enough sense to come in out of the rain. I think I may have wanted to be a tree. But even now, as long as the rain is not too cold, I can't resist going out and standing in it, just for a minute or two. In fact, I think I'll do that right now.
