Blowing

November has begun with gusty wind, blowing away the haze and bringing the stars closer, so they are like bits of glass sparkling on the floor of a dark but limpid pond. The arrival of wind always makes me feel better, especially this time of year, when there are plenty of dry leaves for it to send dancing along the pavement, making a festive sound that is yet a bit disconcerting, though in a comical way. It is a sound like ghosts chuckling. Accompanied by the creaks and groans of the trees, it creates an atmosphere that makes me feel as though I have stepped into one of those old cartoons in which mock-scary skeletons and goblins perform goofy dances to the music of Cab Calloway. Could there be a better way to start a new month? I think not- especially since it is The Day of the Dead! But now I must get to sleep before the sun comes popping up over the horizon a whole hour early!
