Brief Night

I watched moon glow play across the drifting clouds. From behind them, I heard the engine of a light plane. Down the street, the irrigation sprinklers of the orchard sounded like rainfall. All night the crickets kept their metronome going. The scent of Jasmine has reached its peak, and floats out on the soft night breezes to overpower every other scent. Everything says almost summer.
