Reset Thirty-Eight, Day Twenty

Thursday I returned to afternoon naps, and woke up just after sunset. The nap had come on suddenly, around two o'clock in the afternoon as I sat in the balmy back yard with a patch of sunlight baking my head. It was so enervating that I nodded off and almost fell from my chair, so I went in and shut down the computer and collapsed on the bed, with only a single light blanket over me. The oddest thing is that I'd downed a Coke about an hour before and so was full of caffeine. That used to keep me awake for hours. It did have an effect, though, as when I woke up my jaw was aching from having been clenched, and my right foot kept jumping as though I were tapping it to the beat of a manic drummer.

Slept out, but not rested, I've spent the subsequent hours mostly watching music videos, as they are the only thing that doesn't require the concentration I can no longer maintain. There was food, of a sort. Lunch had been some Fritos and the Coke, and after the nap I had a dinner of... wait, let me think... nope, can't remember, but it was something very stupid. And later I had four slices of toast with apple butter and a glass of chocolate milk (spiked with brandy, of course.) It's a wonder I'm still alive at all, and I probably won't be much longer. At the moment I'm enjoying a bottle of plain sparkling water. It's probably the healthiest thing I've ingested all day.

79 degrees expected again today. Maybe the sunlight will put me to sleep again. I'm not sure what's trying to put me to sleep right now, but the brandy would be a good guess. Whatever it is is about to get its way. One last video and then to bed. It's about three hours until sunrise, and the furnace hasn't cycled on yet. How peaceful it is without it.
