Reset Thirty-Four, Day Three

Friday I managed to wake up more than an hour earlier than I had on Thursday, so I guess it qualifies as a good day. Not that anything of any interest whatsoever happened after I got up, but then nothing truly horrible happened either, so it counts. There's a chance today will be good, too. The rain that was expected Sunday might (if it shows up at all) now show up this evening or late tonight. The chances are back up to 34%, which are not as good as the 50%+ predicted for Sunday a few days ago, but better than yesterday's prediction. Sunday now has a 30% chance of rain, and both days will have highs in the seventies. It's almost like September around here. Amazing!

Other good news is that the Dixie Fire is 88% contained and holding at 960,000 acres, so it might not top a million acres after all. When a fire not topping a million acres is good news, that's really pretty bad news, but we seem to be stuck with it. More bad good news is that the fire in the southern Sierra has not yet devoured any of the groves of giant sequoias yet. A fire in 2020 destroyed about 10,000 of them, which is about 14% of the entire sequoia population. So, good news that more aren't burning yet, but bad news that they are even threatened.

I suppose it's also good bad news that I'm still awake after six o'clock in the morning, but the sun isn't up yet so maybe I can still get to sleep before it rises. But only if I go to bed right now. Good day. I said good day, sir!
