In the last forty minutes or so four big planes have taken off from Chico airport and flown over my neighborhood. I think they might be firefighting planes. There are two fires in the region, one northeast in Tehama County, which is actually a U.S. Forest Service incident, and a CalFire incident about the same distance southeast in Colusa County. And there goes a fifth plane. They are headed south, so I suspect they are working on the Sites Fire, in Colusa County near the Lake County border. The fire is now about three hours old, but moving pretty fast. It's been a breezy day, and the wind could pick up tonight. It's not a heavily populated area, but evacuation orders have been issued for the scattered ranches in the area.
