Reset Nine, Day Seven: The Solstice [Jun. 21st, 2020|02:46 am]
rejectomorph
Saturday was the summer solstice, and it certainly felt like it. Now days will get shorter, but they won't soon get any cooler. In fact the forecast for next Friday has been revised upward, predicting a high of 110. I can't remember the last time I lived though a 110 degree day. I don't think it ever got that hot during the 32 years I was in Paradise. It might have gotten that hot once or twice when I was in Los Angeles, but if so I've repressed the memory.

Additional bad news is that although I've arranged a ride to go grocery shopping, it will be Monday afternoon, when it is supposed to get up to 104. Maybe that trip will kill me and I won't have to deal with the 110 degrees on Friday. I hate the valley so much, but apparently not as much as it hates me.

Since I didn't fall asleep Saturday afternoon it looks like my brief pattern has disintegrated. I have no idea what is next, but it probably won't be pleasant. Right now I'm yawning so much I think I might split at the ears. It's very hot out, so I can't cool the apartment with the fan and must leave the air conditioner on all night. It's very quiet outside, too. No birds, no cricket, almost no traffic on the freeway. Almost the only noise I hear is when the air conditioners are running. Oh, and my tinnitus, which has kicked in again.

Yakisoba noodles for dinner. I'll have to replace those when I go shopping. The list keeps getting longer, and most of it is stuff that isn't on sale. It's going to be an expensive month, with all the air conditioning and all. But then a lot of people around here probably can't afford air conditioning at all, or won't be able to pay their bills, so I guess I'm lucky. But if this is good luck, the world is in deep shit indeed.
