Reset Day Eighteen

Now that I have almost nothing that needs to be done, day after day, one would expect that I'd be accomplishing all sorts of stuff with my free time. Nope. I feel more disorganized than ever, do almost nothing, and end up wondering where the day went. Wednesday was like that. I didn't even get around to looking at the new supermarket ads to see all the sale stuff I'm not buying. So what did I do Wednesday? Like Zazie in Raymond Queneau's novel of that name says when she gets the last line of the book after her mother asks her what she did on her adventure in Paris, I must say: "I aged."

Did that last sentence make sense? It sort of makes sense to me, but then I know what I'm talking about because I both read the book, many years ago, and lived through today with none other than me. That's the problem, I'll bet. I spend all my time with a bad influence, me. Bad associations spoil useful habits. The Bible says that, I think. I might be the worst association I've ever had. No wonder my habits are so bad.

But at least I got lots of company from the mockingbird today. In fact there were two mockingbirds here today, and one of them was hanging around well into the evening. I'm starting to think that they might be nesting in the bush on my back fence, as that's where the song of one of them sounded like it was originating, for several hours. I wonder when baby mockingbirds start singing a variety of songs? I would think they'd have to get out in the world and hear a variety to imitate before they became... multilingual? Maybe I'll get a chance to find out.

The back yard became almost unpleasantly warm this afternoon, and I had to keep shifting my chair about to remain in the shade. There are some even hotter days coming up, but also still a few milder ones. April might not turn out to be a complete horror, at least as far as temperature goes. No rain is in the forecast, though. We've probably seen the lat of it until fall at the earliest, unless we get any of those freak summer thunderstorms. It's been a few years since we've had those. An apocalyptic year such as this seems a likely time for them to return, though.

There was a bowl of ramen for dinner again, just a couple of hours ago. At some point I'll have to replenish my supply. There's still a lot of other stuff to eat, but the ramen turns out to be what appeals to me most, especially the spicy varieties. It's nice not to have to do dishes, too. Plus I conserve beer, which I don't drink with ramen. I wonder if I could get a big box of ramen bowls delivered? That would be nice too. I could spend the rest of my life here, just me and the mockingbirds.
