The bus home was only slightly late, and I had plenty of time to eat my donut and drink a concoction of coffee, milk, and Kahlua, while perusing the Internets. The day was slightly milder than expected, so later I went to the Plaza and checked the books at the Goodwill store. I found a trade paperback with two of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe mysteries, so I bought that. I could have left it until Tuesday or Wednesday, which are senior discount days, but I eared it might be gone by then, and it wasn't worth twenty cents to risk that.
Then I stopped a Trader Joe's for another candy bar (the giant Belgian chocolate with almonds) and a half gallon of red grapefruit juice, and I stumbled on the bottles of sherry I couldn't find the last few times I looked for them, so now I have something sweet to mix with that very dry port I bought a couple of weeks ago thinking it might be sweet. Mixed half and half they aren't half bad, which I guess means they are slightly over half good, which for someone who lives in the mini-metropolis is, well, just okay. I can live with it, and if I die suddenly before I finish it I won't be missing much.
I've been out listening to the cricket a few times tonight. It's chirps are quite slow now that the nights are cooler, which makes it even more restful. I don't have to worry about nodding off while listening to it,though, even though I'm pretty tired after not having enough sleep last night. It's too cold to nod off. Also I dawdled again and didn't get around to cooking a proper dinner, so it's another ramen night. Hot soup is a good way to start autumn anyway. Maybe I'll remember to cook dinner tomorrow night. Or eventually.
