Enough, Already!

We had a flood tonight. It was exhausting. The thunderstorm that brought it was spectacular, and the downpours furious and prolonged, and my small backyard became a pond that began seeping under the sliding glass door. Another pond formed in the driveway and parking lot, but didn't quite top the front door sill. The water coming from the back spread through much of the apartment, and all five of my area rugs are at las partly saturated. I've gone through our rolls of paper towels since I no longer have a supply of rags to sop up spills with, all of them having burned. Neither do I have a real mop. Eventually I resorted to sweeping water into a dustpan an tossing it own th sink or, once the rain let up and the ponds receded, out the door. I've pretty much wrecked my knees and back with all the bending and stooping.

Early in the storm I was about to call the property managers to let hem know that the leak in the ceiling had opened up again, and it wasn't until then that I noticed the water seeping under the back door. But the managers had heard about the flooding in the area and called me first, an I told them about the leakage, and was told they would be by tomorrow to see about fixing some sort of drainage for the back yard. It wasn't until after that that the flooding got really bad, so they have an unpleasant surprise in store when they get here tomorrow. I couldn't tell where the water pooling in the kitchen and at the door to the bedroom was coming from, since th floor was dry between those places and the back door, but then I noticed that water was bubbling up between the cracks of the floor boards when I stepped on the adjacent boards, so the water had gone under the floor and was flowing all over the apartment there.

I'm hoping the damage to the floor is not too great, and that the undersides can dry out without being removed. If they have to take the flooring up it's going to be terribly disruptive, and I've had enough disruption to last me a very long time already. Anyway, I haven't done much for the last couple of hours by try to get the place fairly dry, and I'm still not done. I haven't even had any dinner yet, and I'm hungry and worn out. I'm going to use up the rest of my paper towels, make a bowl of ramen, and then go to bed. It's supposed to be dry tomorrow, but more rain is likely the subsequent three days. I'm not looking forward to it.
