Inconvenient [Feb. 8th, 2018|07:25 pm]
So this afternoon my lower back went out. It's usually my neck that gives me trouble, and it's been a very long time since I've had any problems with the lower back. Luckily I have an appointment with the chiropractor Tuesday afternoon, but until then I won't be much good for anything. Sitting for just a few minutes I will find it very difficult to get up. I can't stand up straight. I am moving very slowly. I don't know how sleeping will be, but I'm not looking forward to finding out.

I'm supposed to go shopping Sunday, but I don't know if I'll feel like it. If I do go it's going to take forever to get around the stores, and I'll have to be careful about picking up anything heavy, or getting stuff from low or high shelves. Maybe I'll just have to get somebody to go pick up a few essential items for me.

I've also had to raise the thermostat, as it turns out that I can stand being cold when my back is okay, but not when it isn't. Sitting at the computer is quite unpleasant, too, so I probably won't be here much. The television is going to get a lot of use, though again staying in one spot for any length of time will be an issue.

Anyway I'm going to go eat something now, and probably won't be back at the keyboard tonight. If I find I can't get up tomorrow I won't be back then, either. I'll be prone in front of th television until I die of dehydration and somebody finds my rotting corpse, or the cats eat it.

Or maybe I won't be able to get up from this chair this time, and I'll spend the rest of my life sitting at this keyboard posting progressively crazier messages until I pass out. Actually that would probably be the most interesting outcome. At least for everybody else. I'd rather die lying down, though, with a nice old movie playing. I'll try to arrange it that way.

Heating pad, amigo. Get one.
Your time is not up yet.

Because a displacement of vertebrae triggers inflammation, my chiropractor prescribes icing rather than heat. I've tried both, and the ice does feel better. I used to have a pack of what is called Chiro-Ice, a flexible item that can be chilled in the freezer many times, but it sprang a leak and I had to toss it, and have never replaced it. I might see about getting a replacement Tuesday.

I have wrist and thumb problems and I find icing them does the trick, although only temporary relief. But often ... that's enough.

The body's pains are something we need to just deal with, I guess.
