Taste [Jan. 22nd, 2018|10:58 pm]
Just when I was about to write an entry I remembered that I had artichokes on cooking that needed to be eaten. They were almost overdone, but tasty anyway. I've eaten large dinners the two previous nights, so it was nice to have something more modest. Two artichokes, a bit of melted butter, and a handful of croûtons turned out to be ideal. Now I'm going to eat half a dozen Necco wafers for desert. I'll probably avoid indigestion.

A shivery day has given way to a shivery night, and there is no sign of rain. The forecast is now showing two windows of opportunity for snow at this elevation this week: one very early Thursday morning, and another even earlier on Friday morning, starting about 1:00 AM. However, there's very little chance of rain predicted for the subsequent five days, even though it's going to remain fairly cool or cold through the end of January.

The end of January! Already in sight! It seems as though the month has been going by fast. Maybe it's just my ever-foggier memory, losing track of so much that it seems as though little time has passed. Or maybe it's just that my life has grown so dull that there's almost nothing of it worth remembering.

But damn, those were tasty artichokes!

The chocolate is barely chocolate at all. The others are all fairly intense, though, so I just think of the quasi-chocolate as an occasional palate cleanser.

Artichokes are very easy to cook. You just cut off the tops about a third of the way down, use scissors to cut off any remaining thorns on the leaves, and boil them in lightly salted water for half an hour or so. The difficult part is eating them. Tedious, but rewarding.
