It didn't cool off much last night, and then I overslept this morning and didn't get the windows closed and fan turned off until quite a bit of morning heat had gotten into the house, so it's been pretty miserable all day. It isn't going to cool off tonight, either, and I have an appointment with the chiropractor tomorrow, so I need sleep tonight, and I'll need to take a shower tomorrow. I can't dry off after a shower if the house is too hot, so I'll have to use the air conditioner. I was hoping not to this month, but it can't be helped.
And it looks like this whole week is going to be pretty bad. In fact no forecast is predicting any real, long-term relief until the second week of September. I'm now looking back at the last couple of weeks as a lost age of innocence. What fools we were to be so nearly comfortable for a few hours each night, and to think it could last!
To be honest, the only thing that's making this weather at all tolerable for me right now is knowing that I don't live in Texas. A heat wave compared to torrential rain and huge floods is like hemorrhoids compared to a massive heart attack. And at the back of my mind is the knowledge that this whole region could burst into flames at any time, and then I'd have a real problem. So I won't grouse about the heat any more. Until tomorrow, of course.
Oh, I have to empty the trash and get those wheelie bins out for tomorrow's collection. I almost forgot again. It would probably be a good idea for me to skip dinner, too. Maybe I'll just eat some ice cream. Mmm, ice cream. Cold! |
