More of This Crap

The crow who was hanging around the neighborhood in the mornings for a few days wasn't out there today. I missed the morning croaks and caws. I suppose the bird might flown off in search of a cooler place. If I could fly I sure as hell would. Since I can't fly I just stuck around the house all day, and in the cool(ish) of the evening I went out and watered the back yard. There is one flower on the oleanders. Pathetic.

The jasmine is nearly gone, but now and then I catch a faint hint of its perfume if I'm very close to the hedge. But the predominant scent now is that of dry grass. It's not an unpleasant smell. I've always wished someone would come up with a cookie that tasted like dry grass smells. I have no idea what would have to be put in it though.

There was a power outage last night. I haven't found out what caused it, but it lasted until near dawn. After a couple of hours in the heat without that fan to help the cooler outside air come into the house I managed, against the odds, to fall asleep, miserable though it was. When the power came back on the television came with it, with its volume turned up very high. I don't know why televisions have to do that, but the one I have always does. Annoying machine.

After that there was no getting back to sleep, now enough time to get the house comfortable before the risen sun began heating it up again. The lack of sleep and the general misery engendered by the heat has given me a low grade headache, just painful enough to keep me uncomfortable. I still managed to get the laundry done today. But before I can try to go to sleep again I have to put the wheelie bins out.

The forecast is now predicting a low of 68 tonight, which will not be sufficient to get the house pleasantly cool, so that has been put off for one more night. Tuesday night is supposed to be 65, which ought to do the trick, for at least a few hours early Wednesday morning. I really need nocturnal coolness to show up more often if I'm going to survive summer without going totally batshit crazy.

Wheelie bins. Right.
