Enduring

Both front and back dead lawns have been mowed (they aren't entirely dead yet, but soon will be) and the shrubs have been watered. The mowing was done this morning before it got too hot, and the watering I just did at dusk, while the waxing gibbous moon was turning bright. It's not bad outside right now, but the house will be uncomfortably warm for some hours to come.

There are going to be a couple more merely hot days, and then a string of days from hell, and there's no telling how long that will last. Unfortunately I'll have to go shopping during the hell days. While I'm in the stores I get to use their air conditioning, of course, but it's not enough to make up for the time I have to spend in the hot car and parking lots.

Early today there was a string of small brush fires along one of the main roads below town. They were most likely started by a faulty catalytic converter on a passing car which was spewing tiny bits of hot metal. Around eight o'clock I heard a fire engine speeding south on the way to the fires with its siren screeching and air horn blasting. In fact that's what woke me up today. It's just as well that it did, as it was time to close the windows.

I won't have to take the wheelie bins out tonight since tomorrow is a holiday. I get to keep my trash one more day. But maybe I should put them out now anyway, while I'm thinking about it, just in case I totally forget to do it tomorrow. Any disruption in my routine is apt to confuse me anymore.

I bought some hot dogs on Friday and that's what I['m making for dinner tonight. If I have to endure summer, then at least I can have a nostalgic summer food now and then. Maybe it will remind me of when I was a kid and enjoyed summer way more than I have since.
