Still Here? [May. 21st, 2011|08:41 pm]

If you're reading this, I'm assuming that you haven't been raptured. That means you'll be wanting entertainment for the next few months until we are all consumed by the Wrath of God. I'll make a YouTube recommendation.

There was this guy named Dion McGregor who talked in his sleep, providing a quite intelligible narration for his dreams. A number of his dream narrations were recorded by his roommate and were released as records, the first in 1964 and two posthumous albums in 1999 and 2004. Naturally YouTube's voracious appetite for content has led to the posting of several videos, some simply excerpts from his records and others being mashups.

My favorite so far is one of the latter, by YouTube user tedwig, with McGregor's narration used as the basis for a lip-syncing project that features a CGI frog. It's called The Scavenger Hunt. I haven't found the original dream recording, but a somewhat different mashup by another YouTube user reveals that this one features an edited version of McGregor's original narration. It works just fine, though.

A good example of his more disturbing dreams is Don't Break the Mailman, in which houses, trees and, ultimately, entire theaters are blown away (oh, the windless wind!)

I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't get to see anyone actually raptured today. Perhaps my neighborhood is inhabited exclusively by the wicked. Of course, the date isn't history until it crosses that imaginary line in the Pacific, so maybe there's still time. It might actually be more entertaining by night, anyway. I imagine that the raptured will leave a trail of light as they ascend.
