This evening I decided to have a few peanuts just to tide me over until dinner, and I got hung up and ate about half of a one pound jar of them. Dinner, needless to say, was postponed. Hasn't happened yet, in fact. Odds are I'll fall asleep watching television before I get around to making it. And even if I don't, maybe it will turn out to be a popcorn night, with no dinner at all.
Spider season is upon us. I've been seeing more and more of them around. So far there are no black widows showing themselves, but it won't be long, I'm sure. But the small daddy longlegs are starting to eave their webs. They grow pretty fast, and by the end of this month I expect to see huge ones everywhere. I usually let them be, unless they drape webs across my usual pathways. Those that do will quickly find themselves on the business end of the broom.
The roses are not doing well this year. There was a brief display a couple of weeks ago, but almost no new buds have come along to replace those flowers that have come and gone. They probably could benefit from some sort of fertilizer, but such things are beyond my budget. I'm glad the jasmine isn't so demanding. I'm enjoying its fragrance very much when I go out to listen to the crickets. I'm going to go do that now.
