Merciful Cooling

Following one of those afternoons when the golden light poured down through the pines like honey, the long evening passed with lazy Sunday silence. A pair of blue jays briefly raised a ruckus , chasing one another through the leaves of the mulberry tree, but then flew off to do whatever it is that blue jays do when I'm not watching them. A couple of neighborhood cats strolled by, giving each other wary looks, but there were no fights. The leaves rustled from time to time, and the breeze ruffled the grass. For the first time in days, the evening grew cool. I watched the blue darken in the sky and the green darken on the leaves, and then the color fade from everything and it was night and the stars and waxing moon appeared. It is necessary to have a few hours of quiet now and then, just to recharge the senses. I feel better now, and my thoughts can roam over the night, probing the dark places and sensing their secrets. Silence yields up mysteries no sound will ever convey.

Up Too Late Again

The sky is wearing feathery clouds for dawn. They gradually emerge from the darkness, while the last star fades and the birds begin singing. The sight makes me want to stay up all day, but as soon as the sun emerges in that bright glow over the mountains, I know my energy will drain away. Best to sleep. Maybe the clouds will still be here this afternoon.

De ja view
I was just browsing someone's journal (which I've never browsed before) and I read an entry which I know I've seen before -- verbatim -- in someone else's LJ. I don't remember that entry being attributed to anyone else at that time, nor does the one I just read give credit to the other author.

Plagiarism? In LJ? Yipes.

Dream Within Dream

I dreamed that I was at the center of a large city, and I could see it growing, sending out roads and tracks and wires and pipes like a spider spinning a web. Then I dreamed that I woke up, and that while I slept, my room had been filled with spider webs. Spiders were everywhere, spinning and weaving, dropping and climbing. I stood up and looked in the corner, and the computer was on, surrounded by a tunnel of translucent web. I could hear the fans and hard drive humming, and on the screen was the dream I had been dreaming. I thought if I can get to the computer, I can control the dream I just had. Then there were spiders dropping from the ceiling and crawling on my face, and I actually did wake up, and the cat was about two inches from my face, purring, and her whiskers were brushing my skin.

I guess it's a good thing that I don't often remember my dreams.
