Tedious

The computer is being tedious again tonight. Perhaps it's trying to tell me something. But what? That it's old and tired and needs a rest? That the Internets are a terrible place full of dangers? That I'm a crappy writer and shouldn't be inflicting my maunderings on the world? It isn't as though I was making it do anything difficult or strenuous, such as watching YouTube videos. A page or two of Twitter, a few pages of Farcebook, maybe a bit of Internet Archive, and LiveJournal. Is that too much to ask? But it doesn't want to work. It takes forever to open a page, then refuses to scroll, and if I open as many as four tabs at once it freezes up and I have to restart the browser. It's taking forever, and I don't have forever to take.

Happily, the weather has been nicer than the computer, and I've spent much of the evening relaxing in the back yard, watching the waxing moon drift westward. The nearby crickets have all fallen silent, and I hear only a distant buzz from where the orchard used to be. It's mostly been quiet out. In an hour or so I don't think I heard so much as a single dog bark, and there hasn't been much traffic on the nearby streets. It's a bit warmer tonight than it was for the last few nights, and so far nobody has started a fire in their fireplace, so the air smells fresh and cool. I almost hate to come in, but there is television to be watched. I pay a bundle for cable and I intend to get my money's worth out of it.

Speaking of money, I've been so short of late that I haven't been buying much beer, and I'm totally out for the week. I guess that means another can of soup for dinner. Soup is the only dinner that doesn't require beer. This fact sometimes makes me wish they made beer soup, but tonight I don't mind being beerless. I've got a bit of a headache, and alcohol would likely make it worse. I have an appointment with the chiropractor on Tuesday, and the adjustment will probably leave me free of headaches for a couple of weeks. I'll probably even buy some beer tomorrow. I'm definitely buying more soup, though.
