The long, jasmine perfumed evenings of June pass in a haze of yellow light and deep green shadow. Barely a stir among the leaves. In the deep grass, the crickets begin to chirp long before sunset, long before the heavy heat is lifted from the streets. Nearby, something rustles in the brush. Further away, the sound of kids playing. The slow fading of the light takes all the time in the world.
