All Wet [Jun. 17th, 2016|07:50 pm]
We got a surprise rainstorm this afternoon. When sprinkles began falling around three o'clock I didn't expect it to continue for long, but rain has been falling steadily for most of the last four hours, and continues now. I don't know how much we've gotten, but it's certainly been enough to last the plants for several days. When it first began the air was filled with that smell of freshly dampened soil, but that scent has now been lost in a general, somewhat piney wetness. This is even better than pie!

But my temporal displacement also continues. Only moments ago I noticed that today is Friday, when all day I'd been thinking it was Thursday. My irregular sleep pattern for the last few days probably contributed to that confusion. But it means that I have only one full day between now and my next shopping trip, and thus I had to busy myself making a list. It turns out that if Safeway is not out of a couple of crucial items (as it was last time I visited) I should be able to get the seven dollar discount they are offering on purchases totaling seventy dollars or more this week.

The crucial items are cat-related, and I'd be getting them whether there was a basket discount or not, and since they add up to almost forty-two bucks, I've got only about thirty to reach the discount minimum, and that means I can buy a couple of things not on sale. As there are a few other items I'd be buying anyway, adding up to about twenty bucks, and I won't count them against the seven dollar discount, that means I'll get seven dollars off on about ten bucks worth of extra stuff. I really like the way Safeway does this. I end up with very low prices on things that would otherwise be luxuries I'd never buy. I haven't decided what they will be this time, but something that will be welcome during the upcoming hot weather is apt to be among them.

This has turned out to be a pretty good week for pleasant surprises. First, no PG&E bill, then a nice rain to water all my plants for me, and then bonus items from the store. Maybe I should pick up a lottery ticket Sunday. But, no, luck does not favor those who press it. I'll just wait and see what random chance has in store. I just hope it isn't a lightning fire.

Nooo, no lightning fire! That would definitely be bad. Glad about the lack of energy bill, though. If you do buy a lottery ticket and win, I think you should take a round-the-world cruise with all the cats, first class. :)

The cats would be horrified. Ships are crowded with people, and the cats hate both people and crowds. They also love trees, which are a rarity on ships. I'd probably buy a house with an enormous yard and lots of trees, then build lots of little cat shelters all around it where they could hang out and stay warm in winter and cool in summer.

Ah, you're right -- my bad. I was thinking of the kind of shipboard cat that chases rats, but that's the wrong kind of ship. :D

You have described paradise for a cat fancier, though. I'd love to see all the little cat shelters. :)
