Lull [Mar. 11th, 2016|07:30 pm]
The latest storm turned out to be milder than expected, at least so far. Another band of clouds is headed our way, and it will start raining before long, and probably keep raining through most of the weekend. My Internets connection has been good all afternoon, after having been mostly nonexistent all last night. I'm expecting it to go nonexistent quite a bit over the next few days,.

As it turned out we actually got a few minutes of sunshine late this afternoon, and it would have been a good day to go shopping without getting wet, but I was unable to arrange it. Now I'll have to go on Sunday, which threatens to be very wet indeed. It's going to get colder, too. The handful of lilacs that bloomed during the recent warm spell are looking quite bedraggled, and I'm not expecting them to survive. The bees are going to be disappointed. They enjoy lilacs.

At least the frogs are still happy, and their chorus is loud tonight. Their prospects are good, but the feral cats won't be pleased, I'm sure. And speaking of frogs, I haven't heard the one that was in my yard for several days now. Either it moved on, or a cat slaughtered it. If so, I hope they didn't eat it.

I hear raindrops, so the Internets will probably be going away soon. I think I'm going to indulge myself and raise the thermostat to 66 degrees. If I can't surf the web at least I can be a bit more comfortable while watching television.

I hope the frog just found greener pastures, so to say, rather than going to froggy heaven.

Is Saturday night bloody English murder night on tv?

Sadly, the PBS channel that's been showing the bloody reruns is currently having a bloody begathon, so no, no murders tonight, unless somebody in Sacramento goes to the studio and kills one of the bloody beggars.

In the meantime, I'm making do with the Hallmark Murder & Glurge channel's marathon of Matlock reruns. Crude American murders, of course, but any port in a storm.

As for the frog, I like to imagine that somebody came into my yard as I slept and kissed him and he turned back into a prince and will live happily ever after.

Ack, I hate those fund-raisers. The first one I ever saw was when we moved to Long Island and the PBS station out of Manhattan did one. I actually kicked in a bit of money and got a book bag out of it, found the whole thing entertaining. By the time we moved to the DC area and it kept happening over and over at WETA, I lost my taste for it. Now I tune in something else when it happens here. Well, on the radio, since I have no tv at all.

Matlock's the one with Andy Taylor but no Barney Fife, right? ;)

I'm sure you're right about the frog prince!

Actually, Barney did have a recurring role on Matlock as an annoying neighbor who was always getting in (and causing) trouble. But I don't think Gomer or Opie or Aunt Bea ever turned up on the show.

Good to know about Barney! I'm surprised Andj didn't have to defend Otis the Town Drunk a few times. ;)
