Dusk now lingers past six o'clock in the evening. I'm enjoying it while I may, as the cold and rain will soon return, but for now I can sit on the back porch, listening to the frogs and watching the stars emerge. The false spring has brought bees from their hives, but there aren't yet many flowers for them to visit. In the back yard one azalea bush has put out a couple dozen blossoms, and one of the camellia bushes in the front yard is blooming furiously, although the other still has only buds on it. The sourgrass is flourishing but is still entirely green. It's little purple flowers should emerge soon, unless the weather turns very cold.

The unidentified volunteer ground cover around the feet of my rose bushes does have blossoms, though. They, too, are purple, though larger and darker than the sourgrass blossoms are. Nobody seems to know what plant this is, but it's been growing there for several years now. The rose bushes themselves are sprouting new growth, but so far none of them have produced any buds. The coming chill will undoubtedly slow the roses down, but so far no extreme cold is forecast, so the new leaves should survive.

Tomorrow is shopping day. I hope I get enough sleep at the right time. I hate shopping more than ever if I have to go when I'm punchy from lack of sleep. That's when I forget stuff even when it's on my list, and also when I'm most likely to buy stuff on impulse. Well. I'll just have to eat something large before I go, and avoid the bakery aisles. That's where the evil stuff is. Pie can just jump right into the basket if you're not vigilant.

Now, to microwave a frozen burrito or two. I can replenish my supply tomorrow.
