But, boy, is it cold out there tonight! It dropped below freezing shortly after sunset. When it gets this cold it seems the furnace doesn't work as well as it does on milder nights, so I'm uncomfortably chilly even in the house. I'm thinking of having a can of southwestern corn with potatoes and peppers soup for dinner. I was intending to bake a couple of potatoes but totally forgot to put them in the oven, and now I'm too hungry to wait for as long as it would take for them to get done.
The late storm turned out to be puny, and after dropping only a little bit of rain overnight it cleared out and left a sunny afternoon. The shortage of clouds is partly why it has gotten so cold tonight. Currently no rain is predicted for the next week, though the forecasts have been so unreliable this year that it could change within a couple of days. But it does seem likely we'll be having cold, dry weather from now into the new year. I do hope the rainy season doesn't peter out as it has for the last couple of years. An occasional rainstorm reduces the monotony of winter.
Now I'm going to go heat my soup and tortillas and watch television. I'm going to watch as much as I can because the cable company is raising its rates next month, and I'm seriously considering just dropping it. A few other things are getting more expensive this year, most notably the water bill, and something has to go. I'd really miss some of the stuff I watch, but I can do without cable more easily than I can do without water. Besides which I really hate Comcast, and no longer giving them money will itself be a bonus. But we shall see. I don't have to decide until next year.
