This is the second time recently that I've spent most of a day sleeping. I think I drifted off about one o'clock last night, then woke up at five o'clock this morning. After feeding the cats and raking some of the night's accumulation of leaves and doing a few other tasks I decided to have a brief nap, but though I woke up several times over the next few hours I was unable to completely rouse myself until half past four this afternoon. I do hope I am now sufficiently caught up on sleep that this won't happen again. On the other hand, maybe I'm getting a partial fulfillment of my wish that I could hibernate through the winter like a bear. If so, then be careful what you wish for, I guess.

The moon, now gibbous, is quite bright this evening. Now that many of the leaves are off the trees the shadows are more complex and interesting, and the ground is reflecting more light, and the pale, freshly fallen leaves stand out on the gray lawn. Many leaves have fallen since my morning raking, and by tomorrow morning the ground should be mostly covered again even though the air is fairly still at the moment. I can hear the leaves rustling against one another as they fall, and now and then catch a glimpse of one as it catches a shaft of moonlight. A breeze is apt to come up later and bring them down in greater numbers.

My long nap has left me a bit groggy, and I haven't yet decided what to do about dinner. It feels like breakfast time, but recently I've only been eating granola bars for breakfast (candy disguised as healthy food) and I really don't feel like eating any of those right now. If I had access to a restaurant I might go out and eat eggs and hash browns. I forgot to buy eggs at the store this week and I'm entirely out, so I won't be fixing any for myself. There are lots of potatoes, but grating them for hash browns is a huge arsepain. I'll probably end up microwaving a couple of frozen tamales, as I've got a dozen of those on hand. Or I could just eat pie.

I haven't checked the guide yet, but I do believe English people will murder one another on television at nine o'clock tonight. I certainly hope so. After that long nap I need something familiar to restore my sense of rightness in the world, and nothing says rightness like a nice English murder.
