Refreshed

So we did get some rain last night, starting shortly after midnight. It was fairly steady and pretty strong, though not strong enough to trigger the leakage around the back porch skylight, which was nice for the feral cat who took refuge on the porch. The rain was all over my morning, though the clouds remained fairly heavy most of the day. They thinned out by nightfall, though, which allowed me a good look at the waxing crescent moon long before the pine trees ate it.

Best of all it stayed cool all day. Of course that means it will get quite chilly tonight, and I've got my windows closed. Still, with luck I won't have to use the furnace, and it's going to warm up a bit by Monday, and then stay warm for at least a week, so the odds are increasing that I won't have to have the furnace on until November, which would please me very much. The most enjoyable air is that which requires no artificial heating or cooling. Tomorrow is actually supposed to be a few degrees cooler than today was, though, so we'll have to see if I can get through that one chilly patch without temperature-related artifice.

If I don't forget (my memory is worse every day) tonight will be a very good time to bake that pumpkin pie I've got in my freezer. It's good timing, too, because the same brand of frozen pie is on sale at Safeway this week, so tomorrow I can get another one to put in the vacant spot in the freezer. Safeway has not yet had a sale on the pumpkin pies it bakes in the store, but there should be one soon. They usually have at least one such sale in late October or early November, and then there are usually repeated a couple times through the rest of the year. Pumpkin pie is very nearly the ideal autumnal food.

Shopping tomorrow. I have to go to the store web sites and polish up my list.
