Can't remember if I posted about this before or not, but what the hell....

For a few years I've been subscribed to an LJ community called art_cats. For a long time it was just one or two posts a day, and they made a nice change from the usual text-heaviness of my friends page, but lately the community has gotten very active— sometimes there will be eight or ten posts in a row— and most of the increased activity is coming from one member, kotbeber, who has a marvelous collection of cat-related images. The images on art_cats are quite varied, ranging from sentimental drawings, to naif paintings, Japanese prints, book illustrations, cartoons, old masters, modernists, and even what appear to be advertisements (I say appear to be because the community is mostly Russian, and any text with the images is apt to be in Russian, so I don't know what any of it says.)

The assortment over the last few days has been quite delightful and is well worth a look for anyone who likes seeing cats in art. Sometimes the cats are central to the piece, and sometimes there is just a cat lounging or playing somewhere in the background, but there are always cats. It sort of reminds me of my yard. Today, there was even this entire story book about a cat and some mice. I have no idea what the story is, of course, but I don't need to know what it says in order to enjoy the illustrations. I give this community four out of four cat treats.
