Random Crap [Mar. 4th, 2015|10:47 pm]
I heard fewer frogs tonight, and they stopped croaking fairly early. I'm thinking they might be burrowing down into the mud to stay warm as the night gets colder. There might not be much mud left since the last rain was three days ago, and their stream is probably drying out quickly. There probably never was enough mud for me to burrow into, or I could have used it in December and January as an alternative to keeping the furnace on all night. It might have saved me upwards of a hundred dollars on my gas bill this winter.

This afternoon I managed to not take a nap, so I'll probably be falling asleep pretty early tonight. It means missing hours of watching the full moon, but it's a bit chilly for moon-watching anyway. I'm sure there will be plenty of warm nights for that activity coming up in the next few months.

I just killed an ant that was crawling up my wall. I have no idea how it got into the house. It might have ridden in from outside on me, but if so it must have happened earlier today. Ants aren't active when it gets this cold. Actually I don;t recall seeing any ants outside today at all. They'd better not be colonizing the floor joists. It was big enough to have been a carpenter ant, and ants eating my house are just about the last thing I need. Maybe I should get a pet anteater. Portia probably wouldn't like it, but she can't stop ants from eating the house, so tough luck for her.

My dinner is in the oven right now because I got distracted earlier and forgot to get it started. I'll be eating about half past eleven, and I hope I can stay awake long enough to do so. If I fall asleep it could burn up by the time I woke, and the house would probably reek of it for days. There'd better be something really gripping on television for the next hour.

I've had what the building manager told me are "sugar ants" in the master bath for a couple of weeks now. We have only had a few nights low as the mid-30s, and the stupid things think it's spring. Sure hope yours was just a scout and not the sign of a colony of carpenters!

I'm imagining Portia cozying up to an anteater. Somehow it's not going well. :D
