Dark Sky

It's supposed to rain today. The eastern sky is bright and sunny, but to the west dark clouds are gathering, so it looks as though we might get wet by afternoon. I'm thinking about raking some more leaves and getting them into the wheelie bins before they get wet, but I don't know that I have the energy for that today. I did not sleep well and my brain is still fuzzy and my neck feels like it's about to go out of place. Straining it might be a bad idea.

The top of my head has a lot less fuzz on it now, though, because I did get around to hacking the excess hair off yesterday— just in time for the cold weather. Not only is rain expected today, but there's a good chance of another storm coming through on Thursday, and it could rain Friday and Saturday as well. There's not a warm day in the forecast, so fall has definitely taken hold. Some very chilly nights are coming up, too. I'm hoping they will get the rest of the walnuts to drop their husks before falling.

Okay, I went out and binned the piles of leaves. It was a bad idea, because my neck is really sore now. The squirrels are going to be unhappy, too, because they had hidden lots of acorns and walnuts under the leaves and now I've exposed them. Some of them probably went into the bin with the leaves, too, though I tried to keep my collateral theft to a minimum. I only got one bin full before I ran out of steam, and wasn't out there for very long because the load of laundry I put in just before starting the task is only now getting finished. It's remarkable that I get tired after only half an hour of putting leaves into a bin. I used to be able to do at least forty-five minutes.

Ooh, the sky is really dark now. There could be rain falling any minute now. I'm going back out to smell the first drops as soon as they arrive. Maybe it will help get the smell of decaying leaves out of my nose.
