Memory Lapse

Last night I actually slept for about seven hours and only woke up two or three times (that I can remember.) That's the longest I've slept at one time in months. It probably had to do with the house being a bit cooler than it has been lately. It's a good thing, too, because today they were digging in the back yard next door all day with a backhoe and there's no way I could have gotten a nap.

I think they are rebuilding the leach field for their septic system. That's a bit worrying. That house is the same age as mine, which means my septic system is the same age, which means that it is just about on its last... well, they don't have legs, but whatever they have that is the equivalent of legs, my system is on its last of them. Leach fields are very costly to rebuild, and I have no idea how I'm going to pay for the project when it has to be done.

But at least I've gotten adequate sleep for a change.

Today was the trough of the cool period, and tomorrow it will start heating up again. Tonight it is supposed to get down to 64 degrees, and I want to save up as much of that coolness as I can. I'm glad that July is more than half over, but I'll be twice as glad when it's entirely over. I'm craving something baked, but there's no way I'm turning the oven on in this weather.

The long sleep and the cooling trend have not improved my brain functions very much. I just remembered I haven't fed the feral cats yet tonight. I'd better go do that now. If I leave it too late there are always raccoons hanging around to steal the cat food.

There was something else I was going to say but I've totally forgotten what it was. As soon as I feed the feral cats I'm going to find something for me to eat. If I don't forget that, too.
