But at least we don't have any brush fires going yet this year. The air may be hot, but it smells good— pine resin and dry grass, mostly, and tonight when I water the shrubs the scent of damp earth will be added. As long as those clouds over the mountains don't release any lightning and start a fire the coming week should continue to to smell good. If they get around to dismantling the fallen branch at the house behind mine there will be some sawdust and chain saw odors, but they will be temporary. I don't know why they haven't done it yet, but that branch is still lying there. They really ought to get rid of it. If we do get a fire nearby and burning embers start falling, that mass of dead, drying leaves will be sitting there just waiting to turn the branch into a big torch.
I haven't decided yet if I will eat lunch today or wait a couple of hours and have an early dinner. I like getting dinner out of the way early, but I just have no idea what to cook today. I'd have a pizza delivered, but it just isn't in the budget this month, especially after all the extra air conditioning I've had to use. Maybe I'll make a grilled cheese sandwich and dip it in some spaghetti sauce. Desperate times call for desperate pleasures.
I'll bet a lot of people are eating pizza in San Francisco. Bastards!
