Mother of an Invention

Somebody nearby decided to take advantage of the unseasonable warmth and have a barbecue this evening. They used too much lighter fluid, so the air stank for half an hour. I don't have a barbecue myself, so I'm just making dinner on the stove. There's a problem, though. I was going to make biscuits, but I misread the date on my carton of milk and, being about a week older than I'd thought it was, it has gone bad.

I have nothing milk-like to substitute, and I think biscuit mix needs the milk fats to work properly. I'm going to try melting some butter and whisking it into some carrot juice. I have no idea if this will work or not, but I really want those biscuits. If they turn out very bad I still won't have any, but at least I'll have tried. If it's the protein in the milk that the biscuit mix needs instead of the fat, this could be quite the culinary disaster.

I'm going shopping tomorrow, and I could have waited until I got some fresh milk, but the rest of the dinner was already on cooking before I realized that a crucial biscuit ingredient was missing. I'm going to be optimistic and imagine that I'm about to discover the carrot biscuit, and it will turn out to be really good and will make me rich and famous. Or at least it will turn out acceptable and dinner won't be ruined. At this point I'll take either one.

Well, here goes.
