Hic Town

The weather turned mild for the last few days, but it's about to heat up again. I've enjoyed the fluffy clouds that have provided intermittent shade. Last night they even provided a few minutes of sprinkles, but not enough to count as actual rain. Oddly, there could be rain early next week after it turns hot again. The report says nothing about thunder and lightning, but summer storms are usually electric. Even if this one isn't, it will still probably be muggy. I don't like muggy. Muggy just isn't normal for summer here. I have an appointment with the chiropractor on Tuesday, too, and when I go into an air conditioned room on a hot, muggy day I get clammy. I don't like clammy, either. Clamminess is for chowder, not skin.

This evening ought to be nice, though. I'll be able to leave the windows open a while so I can smell the few gardenias that have bloomed. There would probably have been more of them, but I kept forgetting to water the bush. I keep forgetting to water the peach tree, too, and to pluck some of the excess fruits so the remaining ones will be bigger. My attention span seems to get shorter all the time. I ought to start writing a list of tasks— but I'll probably forget to do that, too.

Almost all the jasmine blossoms are gone already. I didn't water the jasmine enough, either, but it's not a case of forgetting. I water the back yard every night, but the water bill is so much larger this year that I decided to forgo keeping the jasmine in bloom into July. I let most of the lamb's ear languish as well, as it is way back in the corner of the yard and I seldom see it anyway. One small cluster of lamb's ear is nearer the house, and that I have watered nightly. Those plants still have a few blossoms, but the big patch out back is now bare. Most of the color in the back yard now comes from the rose bushes, which are flourishing this year. I don't know why, as I've done nothing out of the ordinary to them, but there are at least three dozen roses on them right now.

I developed hiccups a few minutes ago, and they are annoying the hell out of me. I don't want to eat dinner until they have stopped. I need to be startled. Why does Portia never knock things over when it would do me some good?
