Hotter

A somewhat noisy afternoon full of power tools and aircraft gave way to a fairly placid evening of frogs and crickets. The hot afternoon put me to sleep again, and I got more mosquito bites when I went out to water the shrubbery. The jasmine is blooming rapidly and scents the air outside, but I still can't smell it indoors. Probably a quarter of the blossoms have opened, so it ought to be in full bloom within a few days. Then I'll be able to smell it everywhere.

The afternoon naps are playing havoc with my dinnertimes, and the heat is making me reluctant to cook anyway. It's a good thing I stocked up on canned chili beans when they were on sale a few weeks ago, as that's what I frequently end up eating. I also got a bargain on canned tamales yesterday. They are hardly ever on sale. I'm looking forward to the change one night this week. The hot days are arousing my desire for a casaba melon, but I haven't seen any in the stores yet. Melon weather has arrived ahead of melon season. It's apt to be July before I find casabas at a reasonable price, but as soon as they become available I intend to buy one at the unreasonable price they charge early in the season. I just don't feel like waiting this year.

Little sliver of waxing moon is about to vanish among the pines. I must go say goodbye to it.
