My afternoon nap today was not accidental. I was trying to catch up on the sleep Portia deprived me of this morning. I still don't know what her problem was, but she began loudly insisting on going out at six o'clock in the morning, when I'd been asleep for three hours. I finally gave in a half hour later, by which time I was wide awake. The exhaustion set in at noon, so I attempted a brief nap, but didn't wake up until after four o'clock. Now I'll probably be awake most of the night, and tomorrow we can repeat the whole performance.
It's apparently going to be dry all week, until Sunday when I have to go shopping. Maybe it's going to be one of those winters. If Sunday is rainy I'll probably get my old new shoes wet. The new shoes are old because I bought three pairs at one time when they were on sale, about five years ago. The second pair is finally worn out, so I dug out the third pair today. I was putting off breaking them in as long as possible, but something in the worn out shoes began poking painfully at my heel recently, so wearing the new pair just became the lesser of two discomforts. If I'm careful with them they ought to last as long as each of the previous pairs, which means I won't have to either buy more or start going barefoot for thirty months.
Who knows what might happen in thirty months? I might be rich enough to buy all the shoes I want, or maybe I won't even have feet by then. I might get leprosy and they'll fall off. Feet might be obsolete by 2015, anyway, if somebody comes up with a decent anti-gravity device. My guess is that they will, that it will be made in China, and that it will be cheaper than a new pair of shoes. In fact I'm counting on it.
There was less whipped cream than I thought, and I used the last of it on last night's gingerbread. Thus there will be no Ginger Baker and Cream link tonight. Just a Fredless Ginger Rogers.
