Happy Non-holiday

Shopping on Monday throws me off. The stores were zoos, of course, which didn't help, and my bank's ATM was shut down so I had to go to the other branch to fetch money. In January I'll have to go to the other branch all the time because the one close to my house is being shut down, so it was good if unpleasant practice. I suppose I could just pay the store directly from my debit card, but I don't like using those terminals. I already feel harried in the checkout lane, and adding another task would be a hassle.

Besides, I wouldn't get any coins in change unless I asked for cash back and fed in a round number. I like getting coins in change. They make me nostalgic. My nostalgia hasn't been very powerful for some time now, and needs all the help it can get. It used to provide me with something to counteract both stress and boredom, and often with something to write about. The fading of my nostalgia probably accounts for the fact that I now write about weather even more than I used to. Weather is about the only thing that happens around here anymore, other than the occasional outburst of cat drama. Everything else is as dull as it can be.

I also kept waiting for the mail all morning, and them remembered that today was one of those official holidays, compensating with a day off because the actual holiday fell on a Sunday. Now I feel like it was Sunday, and I'll be looking for all the wrong shows on television.

But I didn't get rained on. In fact the forecast of rain has been pushed all the way to Thursday. After that it's anybody's guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if all those geese and ducks and swans I've been seeing headed south are followed by rain after rain.
