Yet More Random Crap [Jul. 5th, 2012|07:57 pm]

Tonight I was going to make a stir fry for dinner, but I'm seriously considering just sautéing the onions and mushrooms and eating the rest of the vegetables raw. I'd eat the mushrooms raw, too, but I intend to have beer with dinner, and if I combine raw mushrooms with alcohol I will produce a chunderstorm.

I really just don't feel like doing that much cooking (or prepping, which is the actual time-eater in making a stir fry); besides which I don't have anything on hand but regular all-purpose flour to thicken the stir fry juices— though I suppose I could just add extra water to the rice and then drain the excess into the stir fry. That might work.

The problem is that I've never much liked cooking, or prepping, and when the weather turns hot I like it even less. Several times I've contemplated getting a juicer and going liquid with my diet, but never got around to actually doing it. It could easily cut my kitchen time by half or more. But then who ever heard of having a bottle of beer with a glass of juice? I'm not about to give up beer with dinner. In fact, for me, beer is pretty much the reason for dinner.

Oh, about the crickets: I haven't heard crickets chirping for several nights, but I heard them this afternoon. I'd thought they'd all been wiped out somehow, but perhaps our local Stenopelmatidae have simply mutated and are no longer nocturnal. I'm no longer properly nocturnal myself, and I certainly never expected that to happen, so anything seems possible. In fact, maybe the crickets and I share the same mutation. I wonder what could be behind it? Crickets by day, sleep and silence by night: it's all too weird.
