This hasn't been the only delay today. I fell asleep early this morning before feeding the feral cats, than woke up about ten o'clock. None of them were on the porch by then, but when I went out and filled the bowl the three kittens came out of their hiding places and happily began eating. Farah was nowhere about. Eventually, I managed to get back to sleep (there's no way I can get through a day on four hours of sleep anymore) and didn't wake up again until three o'clock in the afternoon.
Farah had returned by then, and was so eager to be fed that she shoved past me when I opened the door and headed to Portia's bowl in the den. She refused to be dislodged until she had emptied it. Farah is a messy eater, and once I'd gotten her back outside I had to pick up dozens of bits of food she had scattered about the bowl. Then I washed the bowl. Portia always knows when another kitty has been eating from her bowl, and is always obviously displeased by the invasion of her territory. This time, with a freshly washed bowl, she never knew of the outrage that had been committed.
After the cats were fed, I managed to rake a few more leaves. The back lawn is mostly uncovered, and can take advantage of the bright autumn sunlight. The grass is actually growing quite rapidly for the time of year. It will probably need mowing within a week or so. I'll be able to mow away the spots of paint the house painter splashed onto several parts of it. The guy was way sloppier than he had to be. My garden faucet now has a coat of paint on the handle, as he never wiped the excess from his hands before turning on the hose to wash the rest of it off. There are even long streaks of paint on the hose itself. They'll probably be around for along time— reminders of a slovenliness I hope I don't have to deal with again.
The possibility of rain has been put off until Saturday, and maybe Sunday. Just in time to get me wet when I go grocery shopping. I hope this doesn't turn out like last year, when I got soaked almost every week for several months in a row. Here it is only the second week of November, already feeling like winter, and me already wanting spring to arrive.
And where the hell is my preview button, LJ?
