Not Here

My eyes and ears are attentive but my brain comes up blank. It's been that way all day. The only thing that gets me to focus is the smell of night after rain, the grass and wood and earth all damp. Even the asphalt smells good tonight. But not even that can hold my attention for long.

The clock must be jumping ahead, there have been so many gaps in time. It's possible that my consciousness keeps falling into an alternate universe, but retains no memory of its adventures when it returns to this mundane world. I can deplore its behavior, but I can't blame it.
