There's nothing like a day of blue sky in February to make the outdoors appealing, but the ground still being buried under masses of snow there's not much outdoors for someone snow-averse to make use of. There's not yet even a proper verge to the roads exposed, so I couldn't go for a walk. Pretty much confined to the small parts of my own yard which have emerged, I got bored quickly and went back inside to listen to the slow trickle of snowmelt draining from the downspout. At the rate it seems to be going, we'll still have tons of snow for the next several days.

I'm not the only one taking refuge in the house. The ants are back, and every time I go to the kitchen I have to slaughter a few more. The place is becoming a formicid charnal house. Thought I bear the small beasts no particular ill will, there's no way I'm letting them munch my cookies. If they'd confine their incursions to parts of the place I don't use, I'd ignore them, but they insist on tracking their acidy feet all over the place. It is their undoing, and I show no mercy. It's messy and tedious, though. I might try spreading some cinnamon about. I don't know if it will really work, but I'm ready to try anything non-poisonous to non-ants.

Something dragged me off to YouTube this afternoon (I can't even recall what I was looking for) and I stumbled across a nice 1917 recording of The Bell Song from Lakme, sung by Amelita Galli-Curci. I've never embedded anything from You Tube before, but now's as good a time as any, I guess. Let's see if I can do it right:

  • Reset Nineteen, Day Twelve

Sunday was as dull as usual, which means pretty much like any other day these days, but slightly quieter, with less traffic on the freeway. As I…

  • Reset Nineteen, Day Eleven

I nodded off at the computer again and then thought, well, I'll just go take a nap until midnight or so, and then I looked at the clock and saw that…

  • Reset Nineteen, Day Ten

Friday I managed to wake up not long after two o'clock, so the evening was not too short. It remained balmy outside for a while, and I sat under the…
