The rain has disappointed me again. Despite a promising start last night, the storm soon slacked off and by midnight there were patches of stars showing and the waxing moon was shining brightly. There might have been more showers while I slept, but this morning there were only clouds that refused to rain anymore, and hoarded raindrops clinging to the leaves of the rose bushes. The leaves kept the drops most of the day, as the air was too cool and damp for them to evaporate, but there has been no more rain at all. |
Fortunately for the region, other parts of it got more rain than we did, but I doubt if I got more than a day's worth of irrigation out of this storm. Our next shot at rain is next Monday, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. It's getting so late in the season that whatever rain we might get after this is apt to be slight. I expect that my yard will soon be dry and my lawn brown, and will remain that way until fall if the watering restrictions are stiffer this summer than they were last summer, as they probably will be.
It also seems unlikely that the frogs will be coming back after getting so little rain, but I won't be sure until the evenings get a bit warmer. The damp has put a damper on the pollen, though, so I've had a day's respite from sneezing and having my head feel bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. I'm thankful for that small favor.
