Cats [Mar. 28th, 2011|07:14 pm]

Alger is still hanging around on my back porch most of the day. This afternoon it was mild enough for me to hang out with him for fifteen minutes. He was delighted at having company, and rubbed his face all around my pant cuffs. Portia will be livid when she returns from her evening walk and smells another cat on me.

Alger is fat! I'm feeding him way too much, I guess, but if I don't leave enough food out the other kitties get shorted. Alger is a bit of a hog.

Portia isn't getting fat, despite having her own indoor bowl the feral cats can't get at. She supplemented her portion with a bird again today. She'd only been outside for ten minutes or so when I checked the garage and found a fresh pile of feathers there. She had already caught and devoured the bird, and had gone off to hunt for another one. So far she hasn't caught one, but the evening is young.

Speaking of birds, there was a hummingbird checking the lilac bush for blossoms a while ago. There aren't any yet, but there is new growth indicating that blossoms will soon be available. Then other birds will arrive. They'd better watch out for Portia. I doubt they have anything to fear from Alger. He's probably too fat and slow to catch them, and too full to bother trying.

Heh. I write an entry then forget to post it for two hours. Memory going.

alger marked you as his! oh boy, how does it feel to be contested territory?

i may've told you already about the time our old cat ate a cardinal, left the little head on the front porch, and barfed up the rest on mom's living room rug? yeah, he was popular for a while.

Oh, the body parts and wild food chunder! Gross!

Reminds me of the two occasions when Sunni brought Dude young rabbits. It took him all night to eat them. Thankfully he didn't throw up in the house, but he did leave the heads lying on the lawn both times.

It was sad, too. They were such pretty little rabbits.
