Wetmas Eve [Dec. 24th, 2008|11:20 pm]

It's been raining pretty steadily since last night. There are three leaks in the ceiling of the den. I suspect that the space above them is, after so many leaks over so many years, full of toxic mold. I also suspect that, someday, when somebody goes up on the roof to fix it, they will fall through because it has rotted away. The town is prone to infestations of carpenter ants, and I'd be very surprised if by now they haven't found that tasty, frequently damp, wood. The only thing likely to prevent eventual ant-related disaster is if mold is discovered and the roof has to be rebuilt, or of the place burns down because a leak finally reaches the wiring and causes an electrical fire.

I do enjoy listening to the wind that came up a while ago blow the rain against the window pane, though.

Gray cat didn't finish the food I put out for him this evening, and half an hour later gray white-faced cat showed up and finished it for him. Gray white-faced cat is a sloppy eater, and tonight was mud-faced to boot, so after he left I had to wash the dish before I refilled it. I don't know if gray cat will venture out again tonight in this storm, but if he does I don't want him to be confronted with an empty or dirty dish.

Weather report says that there's a chance of some sunlight Monday. By then I'll probably be tired of hearing the rain. I hope it's clear and dry on Tuesday, too. I really want to get that head-yanking over with.

With any luck, roasted reindeer for dinner tomorrow! And maybe some braised elf! For sure, if they land on that rotted roof!

The gray cat waits for me every afternoon now. He knows there'll be food. I'm trained. But he still won't get within ten feet of me.
